Frequently Asked Questions
Is This the Right Program for Me?
+ If I want to learn to be a spiritual healer?
Not exactly. The Auric Self-Healing program's focus is healing of self. We believe that in order to be a spirual healer or self-healer, we must first have a deep knowledge and recognition of ourself. Therefore, the primary focus of the 3-year Auric Self-Healing program is the focus on personal growth and self-healing so that we can be healed and heal. Methodology and technique are not emphasized in this program.
+ If I want to be a counselor focusing on Mind, Body and Spirit?
Not Exactly. Although the programs at The School of Healing Arts complement any profession and encourage your focus on mind, body, and spirit, these programs alone are not in any way an academic course of study in counseling principles.
+ If I would like to continue my academic studies in counseling?
No. These programs are not academic courses of study. The Auric Healing Program is an in-depth self study which includes teaching dialog, homework, meditation, and a great deal of experiential work.
+ If I feel like I am in a rut in my life and want to find a deeper meaning?
Yes! Get ready to identify your psychological defense systems, learn how to perceive magnetic energy fields, understand priniciples of personal healing, learn meditation practices, break old patterns, and develop your authentic self.
+ If I want a program that includes mostly the study of factual information?
No. We have some information learned from the books used for classes but they are used only as a guide. Most of what we do is experiential and teaching dialog.
+ If I want a program that is a combination of academics, experience, and spirituality that grows along with the class I am a member of, that gives me a place to be me, and that gives me a strong feeling of community?
Absolutely, yes! Come join others on the same journey and become fully you!
Is this What I Want?
+ What if I am only interested in studying Kabbalah?
Unfortunately, we do not offer a Kabbalah program without prerequsites. Our 3-year Kabbalah program has a prerequisite of our 3-year Auric Self-Healing Program. This is because we have designed our auric program to provide you with ample self study and self healing to prepare you for the continued spiritual journey of Kabbalah.
+ Will I receive any type of special certification upon completing this program?
We do not offer any official certifications or licensure, only certificates of completion for our programs.
+ I already have an individual therapist. Can sessions there count as my required monthly therapy?
Unfortunately, no. Although it is not necessary for you to stop working with your current therapist, we require you to use an approved therapist here at The School of Healing Arts as well. This is because all of our therapists are also graduates of our school and have first-hand understanding of the journey through our school. This helps them to facilitate the best results for you.
Will Class Schedules Work for Me?
+ What time of the year do classes meet?
Classes typically begin each fall in September or October and meet through May. Classes meet according to their schedule several times each year.
+ Do classes meet during the summer?
Usually classes do not meet during Summer months. In rare cases where they do, it only happens after an effort has been made to meet students' scheduling needs.
+ Will you start a new Auric Self-Healing class every year?
We would like to start a new class each year but will only do so if we have a quorum of students to make it an effective class. If not, we will wait until the following year.
+ Three years is too much of a commitment for me. Are there other options?
The course of study with The School of Healing Arts only offers 3-year programs. However, our therapists, who are all graduates of our programs, teach classes and lead groups on a variety of subjects each season. Check out The Estuary website periodically to see what is available. Each classs link gives you dates and times and instructions for registration.
+ I don't see anything scheduled for Auric Self-Healing I (or H1). When will the schedules be available?
Schedules are usually set in the Spring of each year for the following fall classes, and sometimes later in years when it is not clear whether there will be a quorum. You may go to the full-page calendar for easiest viewing of schedules. If there are no classes listed, this means that they have not been scheduled at this time.
+ Do I have to be at every class?
Because our classes meet relatively infrequently for multiple days of intensive study, it is very easy to get behind when you miss a class. We understand that things occasionally happen that get in the way of you coming to class, but we do have the expectation that when you enroll for classes each year that you plan to make attending each class a priority. Students are required to pay for classes regardless of attendance.
+ What is the class schedule like?
Our classes meet for 2 full days in a row, a Thursday and a Friday, 6 times per year.
+ Does the class schedule vary from year to year?
We try to keep the same scheduling format from year to year but sometimes may make minor changes to better meet the needs of a particular group. Each spring, the schedules for classes that begin in the fall are announced and placed on the calendar on this website so that students will be able to plan ahead.
+ Can I attend only 1 or 2 years?
We ask that each student enrolling for our classes does so with the intent of completing all 3 years of the program. As classes meet, each class group becomes it's own small community, with each member serving an important role. As you can imagine, the progress of the group is affected when a member leaves a class community because there is a period of adjustment afterwards.

Susan Austin-Crumpton, Executive Director and Founder of The Estuary and The School of Healing Arts
Susan Austin-Crumpton is the the founder of The Estuary and The School of Healing Arts and has developed the healing techniques and skills taught by the school and integrated into the individual practices of the staff at The Estuary.
Susan’s intention to be fully present and alive with passion and joy requires an authenticity that is her hallmark. Dedication to study and commitment to her students provides them with purpose and meaning not often found in traditional leadership. As the primary teacher at The School of Healing Arts, she combines the techniques of energy healing and psychology with Kabbalistic principles into her psychotherapy techniques that bring lasting change into the lives of those who work with her.
A varied career history as business owner, a teacher, and a psychotherapist make Susan uniquely qualified to bring grounding to healing practices that originate outside the medical and psychological mainstream. Her techniques are truly complimentary to allopathic medicine and traditional psychotherapy, not in conflict with them, as is evidenced by the community support and acceptance over the past twenty years.
Susan has completed four years of study in healing science with The Barbara Brennan School of Healing Science and three years of study in Integrative Kabbalistic Healing with Jason Shulman's A Society of Souls. She also holds a degree in counseling psychology from the University of Louisville. She is a pastoral counselor ordained by The Estuary.
Susan is married and has two daughters and two grandchildren. She loves to study, to learn and grow personally and professionally, and is committed to the well being of her family, students and clients.
+ How did The School of Healing Arts become established?
The School of Healing Arts grew out of a 3-year weekly class that was offered over 20 years ago and taught by Susan Austin-Crumpton. The class was called "Defining My Gifts" and taught self-healing principles. At the end of the 3-year class, a name for the school was established, certificates of completion were printed, a graduation ceremony was held, and The School of Healing Arts was born.
The school curriculim has grown over the years from the experiences of the instructors as they have walked alongside many students on their journey and it has evolved in to what is offered today. Since its inception, The School of Healing Arts has seen over 200 graduates from all over the United States.
